History

            Kota Tinggi Museum is a museum located in Kota Tinggi, Johor, Malaysia. It is placed in a building with an of ​​6, 480 square meters. It was built on was built on 14 April 1997 and was completed on 11 June 1999. Museum Kota Tinggi was opened to the public on August,30 2002 and inaugurated by D.Y.A.M. Tunku Ibrahim Ismail Ibni Sultan Iskandar, Tunku Mahkota Johor (Johor Sultan at this time) on February 29, 2004 equal to 8 Muharram 1425 H in conjunction with Mahkota Johor Travel Program.

            Kota Tinggi has been chosen as the site of museum because of its historical importance as the throne of the old Sultanate of Johor. Kota Tinggi Museum has become the center of all walks of life visit, including tourists from within and outside the country to learn about the history of Kota Tinggi, in according to a  function as a repository and dissemination of historical information. Kota Tinggi Museum highlights the history and historical remains of the Kingdom of Johor Lama. Lembah Sungai Johor is a place of continuity after the death of the Malacca Sultanate to Portugese in 1511. In 1529, Johor onset a central government in Pekan Tua (Pasir Raja) and followed by Johor Lama in 1540 it mean that the malay civilization has been based in Kota Tinggi more than 400 years.


            In Lembah Sungai Johor, Tun Sri Lanang, the malay famaous author was born and he is the earliest who producing malay history, a great malay historiography. At first, Kota Tinggi Museum used the name Kota Tinggi Historical Centre was built in 1997. The work of construction was supervised by the Jabatan Kerja Raya (JKR) Kota Tinggi. On 11 June 1999 the building was perfectly prepared and submitted to the Department of Museums and Antiquities. On 27 February 2001 the Department of Museums and Antiquities Museum submit to Kota Tinggi Johor State Government and organized by Yayasan Warisan Johor.
